To do so, I need to figure out for each nonlinear implicit system of equations on which tearing variables the Jacobian depends on, directly, or indirectly through the torn equations.

I understand from today's discussion in the webmeeting that this information is already available. Can you please dump it somehow, in terms of a list of variable names and/or a list of indeces in the unknown vector {{{x}}}?
