#5310 closed enhancement (fixed)

Add checkbox for newInst in OMEdit

Reported by: Per Östlund Owned by: Adeel Asghar
Priority: high Milestone: 1.14.0
Component: OMEdit Version: v1.14.0-dev-nightly
Keywords: Cc: Francesco Casella

Description

Since we're aiming at switching to the new frontend in 2.0.0 I think it would be a good idea to make it easier for users to try it out.

It's already fairly easy to add -d=newInst to the command line options, but I still think it would be a good idea to add a checkbox that users can toggle the frontend with. Besides making it even easier to use it would also increase the visibility of the option, hopefully enticing users to try it out on their own. In 2.0.0 we can then invert the checkbox so that it can be used to turn on the old frontend instead.

I would propose something like "Enable experimental new frontend", although I'm not quite sure where to place it.

I agree 100%

The obvious place is in Tools|Options|Simulation, though it's not that visible. Would a button in the toolbar be too much?

Yes, I think that's a bit too much, I was thinking somewhere in Options. I also think Simulation is probably the best fit currently.
