Massive slowdown when using generate_icon.py

Description
There is some regression bug regarding the API that the generate_icons.py script uses that slows down the icon generation by literally an order of magnitude. Hence rendering it almost useless for use in the documentation generation script for larger libraries such as the MSL (currently busy for 3 hours and going).
Someone should take a look at this script again to determine if the issues is due to the script itself, its API calls or something entirely else that has changed in OMC.
