OMSimulator and stand-alone simulation should be able to save results as HDF5 files.

To my (limited) understanding, HDF5 is just a container format, like xml. In order to be meaningful, you need to specify a schema.
Also, isn't the latest .mat format just HDF5 plus a schema?
